Carole Fielding Student Grant

The Carole Fielding Student Grants supports work by undergraduate and graduate students in film and video. Each year, more than $4,000 is competitively awarded for production proposals in five categories.


Filmed in North Carolina Fund

The Filmed in NC: Cucalorus Indie Filmmakers Fund supports the production of indie film and video projects by artists who are permanent residents of North Carolina, or who are full-time students at colleges or universities in North Carolina living full-time in NC.  It is intended to support the development and production of new and ongoing projects with total budgets under $250,000.  Projects are supported with funds ranging from $500 to $3,000 per project. The Filmed in NC: Cucalorus Indie Filmmakers Fund is made possible through a partnership with the NC Film Office, and by a gift from Artless Media in conjunction with The Magnifying Glass.


The Fulbright-National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellowship

This fellowship is a new component of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program that provides opportunities for U.S. citizens to participate in an academic year of overseas travel and digital storytelling in up to three countries on a globally significant social or environmental topic. This Fellowship is made possible through a partnership between the U.S. Department of State and the National Geographic Society.


George Stoney Fellowship

Working Films offers a paid fellowship to a student or activist, named Stoneyships, in honor of George Stoney. This is a part-time, summer position for candidates with a demonstrated commitment to social justice and an interest in documentary film and social media.


The Princess Grace Awards

The Princess Grace Awards is a national program dedicated to identifying and assisting emerging theater, dance, and film artists who are at the outset of their careers or at early stages of professional development.  The foundation awards scholarships to help support students’ thesis film projects at the undergraduate and graduate level. The application deadline for film students is June.


Richter Scholarship

The Richter Scholars Program supports independent study scholarships for students in the undergraduate College, the Calloway School and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences on the Reynolda Campus of Wake Forest University. Richter Scholarships are competitively awarded for students proposing an independent study project requiring travel away from Winston-Salem. International projects are especially encouraged.


Southern Exposure

A multimedia summer fellowship sponsored by the Southern Environmental Law Center.  Southern Exposure provides a positive and challenging learning experience to exceptional college and graduate students seeking to explore and develop their own voices as environmental advocates through the use of documentary film, photography, and journalism.  This innovative summer fellowship equips students with the skills, equipment, content knowledge, and contacts to create authentic, engaging films intended to raise public awareness about important issues facing Alabama’s environment, from the mountains to the coast.


Southern Foodways Alliance

The annual Summer Documentary Film Internship encourages and nurtures emerging documentary filmmakers. For two months, two interns work directly under the guidance and mentorship of SFA’s Pihakis Foodways Documentary Filmmaker, Ava Lowrey. In addition to hands-on learning through pre and post-production assistance on current projects, the interns will also be assigned individual film projects that they will direct and edit with producers Ava Lowrey and John T. Edge. These final projects are expected to be 5-8 minutes in length. Filming and editing equipment, as well as training from Lowrey, will be provided.


University Film and Video Association Graduate Student Conference Fellowship

The fellowship provides a select group of students with financial support to attend the annual UFVA conference and the opportunity to participate in a Fellows Program that offers professional development opportunities and helps graduate students position themselves for the academic job market.


Mark Zboch Academic Scholarship

Marc Zboch found his passion of giving back through various efforts, including missionary work. Out of that passion came this scholarship—a fund designed to support those who are pursuing a higher education. $1,000 awards are available to graduate students. Scholarship deadline is February 1, 2022.
