Alum Screening of Luminous

Alum visits and screenings are always a highlight of the semester!  We are looking forward to DFP alum and Calvin University Assistant Professor of Film and Media, Sam Smartt’s (MFA ’13) return to campus.  Sam will host a screening of his latest film, Luminous. The film tells the story of Astronomy Professor Larry Molnar who believes he can find the unfindable – a star that is about to explode.  When Larry and a small team of students stumble across a strange star, they embark on a dramatic journey of scientific discovery, which brings the unlikely team into the international spotlight.  But others in the astronomical community are skeptical, and Larry’s professional reputation hangs in the balance. The film follows Larry’s journey to test his unprecedented prediction, knowing that its success or failure will unfold squarely in the international spotlight.

Please join us for the screening on Tuesday, October 11 at the Porter Byrum Welcome Center. A reception will be held at 6:00 p.m. followed by the film screening at 7:00 p.m. A Q & A with Sam will follow the screening.
