Deel Receives Richter Scholarship

We are delighted to share the news that Nick Deel (MFA ’19) is a newly minted 2018 Richter Scholar. The Richter Scholarship program provides funding for students to pursue scholarly and creative work requiring travel. Deel will receive just under $3,000 to fund a film project examining the farm to table movement in Puerto Rico post hurricanes Irma and Maria.

Despite being a lush, tropical island Puerto Rico imported 85% of its food before the storms. A new generation of farmers see an opportunity in the recovery to establish new ways of utilizing abundant resources to help lift a sagging economy and to assert their autonomy in the face of the US mainland.
